114th Philippine Independence Day activity

(The National Historical Commission of the Philippines and Rock Ed Radio present this fully animated music video of the Philippine National Anthem. ARNOLD ARRE directed and animated. RADIOACTIVE SAGO PROJECT performs)

On the occasion of the Philippines' 114th Independence Day, BarkadahaNZ chose an activity that is more inclined towards thinking and sharing our ideas about what independence and freedom means for us.

The activity for the afternoon was focused on showing Filipino short films, after which focus groups were formed: the older kids got involved with discussions about the films and about the topic of the day - independence - while the younger ones (7 and below) set about making their flags while the grown-ups explained to them what the symbols in the flag meant.

We hope that through this activity, the kids are able to learn something about the history of the Philippines, the valour of our ancestors, and why freedom is important.
